March 21, 2019

Ms. Dawn M. Bowne City Administrator
20750 River Drive
Dunnellon, FL 34431

Re: Section 36060 -  MP 0.097 to MP 0.117
US 41 from the Brittan Alexander Bridge to River Drive Marion County

Dear Ms. Bowne:

We have completed our review of safety and operations at the pedestrian midblock crosswalk between the Brittan Alexander Bridge and River Drive in the City of Dunnellon, Marion County. The study was initially requested by the City with an emphasis in improving safety and operations at the subject crosswalk.

Our study found the need for short and long-term improvements as follows:
Short-term  improvements
  • Add flashing beacons to the advanced pedestrian crossing signs
  • Add double white lines on the approaches to the crosswalk extending past the "PED XING" pavement markings
Long-term  improvements
  • Construct a directional median at the Blue Gator restaurant/ boat ramp driveway
  • Construct an overhead pedestrian hybrid beacon with a mast arm to replace the existing midblock crosswalk
The short-term improvements will be installed by our Traffic Operations Pushbutton group as funding becomes available. Please coordinate with Mr. Kevin Marquez (386-943-5527) for questions and schedule updates for the project.

The long-term improvement recommendations will be used to submit applications for the current Federal safety funding cycle. If Federal safety funding is secured the anticipated date to begin construction should be in Fiscal Year 2023 (July 2022 to June 2023). Please coordinate with Mr. Tony Nosse (386-943-5334) for questions and schedule updates for this candidate safety project.

The original electronic signed and sealed traffic study will be sent via email to accompany this letter.

Sincerely,
James S. Str  z, Jr., P.E.
