Dale Burns

Mayor Curtis “Dale” Burns was elected to his first term on the Dunnellon City Council and was sworn into office on November 13, 2018 to Seat #1. He and Katherine, his wife of 45 years, have six children and sixteen grandchildren.

Mayor Burns holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services and a Master of Science Degree in Organizational Management from Springfield College. He is a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor in the State of New Hampshire, Florida Certified Addiction Professional (CAP), International Certified Drug and Alcohol Councilor (ICDA) and a Florida Certified Addiction Prevention Professional (CAPP).

Mayor Burns also holds a State of Florida Department of Education Professional Educator’s Certificate in Social Science, Grades 6-12. He is an Ordained Minister with the Fellowship of Christian Churches and a certified Drywall Contractor. He has served on numerous committees and as a board member for nonprofit organizations.

Mayor Burns’ broad background experiences include a career as a professional Drywall Contractor with 100 plus employees; serving as a Senior Pastor for 10 years and as a Resident Chaplain at Martin Memorial Hospital; working as a counselor at a treatment facility and rounding out his varied background as a Social Studies teacher at various high schools.

Mayor Burns shares, “My desire is to see Dunnellon, the Twin River City, as a place where neighbors help neighbors and for the citizens to be proud to be active members of our City. This will best be brought to fruition by achieving and maintaining a balanced budget. I have spent the last fifty-two years of my professional life giving back to communities through a broad background in business, ministry, counseling and education. I am a lifelong learner exemplified through my varied educational and certification achievements. I will use the skills and talents that have been developed over the past fifty plus years of employment and family history to work with fellow council members. Together we will create synergy and effectuate positive outcomes for our neighbors.”
