Street Light Reporting Procedures

As a partner with our local communities, Progress Energy Florida (Progress Energy) would like to provide you with the procedures for reporting street light outages to us.  These process reminders will ensure that Progress Energy receives the notification and will assist you in consistent processes for your own employees.  Please help us continue a smooth repair process by following the procedures listed below.

*       Customers should report street light outages either through our internet site or our customer service center
*       Report outages via internet by visiting http://www.progress-energy.com/custservice/flares/index.asp.  At the bottom right hand, select Request Streetlight/Area Light Repair Request

*       The site accepts multiple reports entered one at a time
*       Customers should include in their notice the following information:
1. IDENTIFICATION OF THE STREETLIGHT LOCATION WITH SUCH SPECIFICITY THAT THE LOCATION OF THE STREETLIGHT CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE STREETLIGHT PROVIDER.

2. A DESCRIPTION OF THE NATURE OF THE MALFUNCTION OR FAILURE OF ILLUMINATION OF THE STREETLIGHT.

3. APPROPRIATE CONTACT INFORMATION, AS AVAILABLE, SUFFICIENT FOR THE STREETLIGHT PROVIDER TO CONTACT THE PERSON MAKING THE NOTIFICATION, SUCH AS THE NAME AND ADDRESS, ELECTRONIC MAIL ADDRESS, OR PHONE NUMBER OF THE PERSON MAKING THE NOTIFICATION.

*       You can also report street light outages through our Customer Service Center by calling 1-800-700-8744.  Press 4 to report a street light outage.  Customers should include the information listed in items #1-3 above when reporting outages.

*       Report outages immediately. Don't wait to compile a long list of outages.  The sooner an outage is reported, the sooner Progress Energy can respond.

*       It is important that you provide us with accurate contact information in case we need to contact you.

*       In addition, please provide the associate with as specific information as possible as to the location of the light; especially if the light is part of a large complex (or include comments if issuing via Web. For example, "Light out on SW corner of Wal-Mart parking lot across from Dollar General" is preferable to "Light out in Wal-Mart parking lot."

*       When identifying outages, please provide the closest physical building/premise address.  For example, the light in front of 3000 4th St N rather than light out at 4th St N and 30th Ave N.  This allows our lighting technicians to locate the light quickly.

*       Where possible, provide a pole number or mark the pole with colored tape.  Include that information in your report.

*       Finally, provide details on the outage such as if the light is cycling on and off, if there is noticeable damage to the fixture and/or pole, or if the light is on all of the time.
